Lung Cancer Screening Risks

Out of 1,000 people who had lung cancer screening, 365 had at least one false-positive result, 25 had an invasive procedure (examples: lung biopsy, surgery) because of a false-positive result, and 3 out of those 25 had a major complication (examples: serious bleeding, lung collapse) from an invasive procedure after a false-positive result.

The information is based on the best available evidence.
