Dissolved Bubble Microneedles Enable More Efficient Therapy of Acne Vulgaris

Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder driven by bacterial overgrowth and persistent inflammation, often requiring combination therapy for effective control. However, delivering both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs to the same skin lesion remains a major challenge due to the skin barrier and formulation incompatibilities. This study introduces a dissolving microneedle patch with embedded bubble structures designed to co-deliver multiple therapeutics with different solubilities. By spatially separating and sequentially releasing anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents directly into affected skin layers, the system achieves enhanced local drug availability and therapeutic efficacy. The work demonstrates a minimally invasive strategy that overcomes long-standing delivery limitations in acne treatment while improving precision and patient compliance.
