A new playbook for cancer prevention in Africa is targeting an enemy we already know: everyday infections. Wits scientists have created a 'microbial watchlist' of common germs that can quietly raise cancer risk. These include Salmonella typhi, a bacterium that causes typhoid fever through unsafe food and water, and the very common Epstein-Barr virus.
