(HealthDay News) -- Being a safe driver means learning to watch for potential road hazards.

The Nemours Foundation offers these defensive-driving suggestions for teens:

  • Don't let your mind wander.
  • Don't become distracted, such as by talking on the phone or eating.
  • Make sure you are well-rested, and never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Be aware of the other drivers around you, and make sure you're not driving too closely behind anyone.
  • Don't speed.
